The Artist's Lie
04:31
|
|||
I’ll be whoever you want
I’ll be whoever you need
Playboy, broken angel
sensitive, a bleeding soul
I’m the color of the sunset
the tightness of your tourniquet
the hole you need to fill
the machine that prints the pills
I’ll be your swollen heart
I’ll be your stolen start
Yeah
who are you
I don’t care
I love you, no I don’t
I’m the only one who knows the truth
I’m the only one alone at the bar booth
the only one who taught himself to sing
please just trust that I know everything
I’ll be whoever you want
I’ll be whatever you hate
gay or straight, black or white
photoshop and marketing, lose me in the night
I’m the last real artist
the most sadistic masochist
the voice inside your head
the reincarnated dead
I’m the glory of the sunrise
don’t think too much about these lies
yeah
who are you
I don’t really care
I love you, no I don’t
‘cause I’m the only one who sees the signs
the only one who wrote these lines
the only one who’s the best in the world
the only one who loved a girl
I’m the only one who lost his mind
the only one that you can find
the only lonely dead sunflower
the only one worthy of this power
I’ll be whatever you want
Ill be whoever you need
lost addict or the funny guy
the gangster or the small fry
sex symbol or a leper
whoever you want, I’ll do it better
than you ever thought it could be done
everyone thinks they’re brighter than the sun
but the only ones left standing
all use the same branding
I’m the only one who breathes in life
the only one immune to strife
the only one with a plan
the only one you can’t stand
I’m the only one who knows the facts
I’m the only one down by the tracks
I’m the only one who runs this scam
the only one who knows we’re damned

Pep Talk
02:18
|
|||
No one can truly know
where or when youre supposed to go
theyll say when you’re ready
but when is that
no one can truly know
why or how your power grows
but tell them that you’ve got it
and theyll deeply distrust you
no one can truly know
what to make of you
youre not like most of them
and you know its all true
your goals outstretch their tiny rooms
so dont let them define your life
when they think you’re just as old
as their stagnant murky souls

Tigers
02:49
|
|||
Stolen all the world ahead
fancy tea and living dead
swollen calls and burning credit
ocean potions. help? forget it.
spendthrift imperfection
incensed candle fire confection
power lonely calls a wife
from life to death to back to life
the circles that we spin in
a melted stick of cinnamon
the mortal vegetable inside
takes the children on a ride
fairy hand or devil’s horns
reflects our inner thorns
jealousy over perfect tears
owns our holy crimson fears
we want what’s more
we want to change what’s true
and freeze the money to the few
only two or only three
or only a million strong company
scarlet ice is made of love
but heart and beauty aren't enough
if only you could switch your stripes
and live among the tigers
but a zebra cannot change its heart
nor carnivores their deep desires.
come with me outside of time
allow our angels ancient rhyme
the moment passed, the other soon
kiss inside our worldly room
The sun it slips outside the clouds
refracted light cheers like the crowds
all our fear can melt away
if presented as a shade of grey
Justice against the evil news
is balanced out with lustful blues.
The instant of a sublime touch
is too little or too much
eternity in loving pain
is sensitive, is lost in vain
rainstorms fear the desert mud
oh come with me into the flood.

Love You Still
03:38
|
|||
A battered broken man once tried to swallow hope
and found it was a poison as it melted through his throat
reborn around the campfire
the moment trickles on
and the only way to mark the time
is from song to lovely song
is it wrong to love you still?
is it wrong to think I care?
I swear to the sky our souls meet while we sleep
and we love each other every night in the frozen air
A lonely shallow stolen life once tried to win the day
and met his oldest lover at the entrance to his grave
distance is the lie of time
immortalized in ancient rhyme
we tell ourselves its far too late
we tell ourselves we’ve shut the gate
but the past still linger in the tune
of all the lovers gone too soon.
is it wrong to love you still?
is it wrong to think I care?
I swear to the sky our souls meet while we sleep
and we love each other every night in the frozen air

Box Turtle

6. |

The power of the stubborn
grows stronger year by year
maybe one day I’ll breathe the easy air
of salamander afternoons, drown in boxcars
who of all the honored dead
could dare to take my place
all imposing, death composting
murmur out of space
An ocean made of maybes made out of the night
melting the corners of the box turtle out of sight
to fit the hole we’ve dug
who has time for American poetry?
maybe in heaven all the artists are free
able to create however they please
the world is your heaven
you are what you do
but all your worst mistakes
will always follow you

Tell Me Your Dreams
04:37
|
|||
purple rain clouds against the mountains
frame our wasted youth
the shadows of our ancestors
disguise or frame the truth
The summer smells like dancer’s sweat
the birds pirouette through the trees
sitting on rocks in the center of the river
smoking along with the breeze
avalanche eternity
pour your soul out into me
and if it all is as it seems
believe me, deceive me
tell me your dreams
we kissed by a bush out of sight from our friends
and just for a moment I’d made my amends
for refusing my destiny, following fate
for drinking all day and harboring hate
a man at the bus station knows what I’ve done
together we’ve stolen the secret to fun

Anaphylactic Heart
02:32
|
|||
I’m allergic to falling in love
I get hives at the thought of your touch
I’m afraid of the moment
when we’ve both said too much
Darling distracted
I’m anaphylactic
please just tell me a lie
that everything’s fine
you’ll always be mine
at least would you look in my eyes
Oh honey you swell up my tongue with your soul
and now I can’t breathe
why oh why could I ever think
that you were all I need?
